Drive Inn & Drive Thru Pallet Racks
Drive-in racking and drive-thru systems are designed to store large stocks of relatively few product types. This is used for high-density pallet storage. The depth of these systems reduces the need for aisles, which greatly increases space utilization. This is a static system where pallets are loaded onto horizontal rails that run the depth of the rack for pallet placement. Since forklift operators must drive into the rack system there is increased potential for rack damage.
These systems offer greater storage density, which considerably increases space utilization, aisle space is significantly reduced when compared with selective pallet racking.
The typical applications for drive in / drive thru pallet racks are those that involve a few SKU’s. Drive-In Pallet Rack Systems are loaded and retrieved from the same side, this creates Last-In-First-Out (LIFO) inventory organization. Drive-Thru Pallet Rack Systems are loaded from one side and unloaded from the other side, this creates a First-In-First-Out inventory organization (FIFO). To operate this system forklifts can enter from either aisle.
